The Turkey launch was not selected by chance, as the European market version of the new Corolla will be built there alongside the Verso at Toyota’s local plant in Sakarya.
The EU-spec Corolla sports a slightly modified design over its US sibling, with the most striking differences being noticeable at the front and rear ends. The car looks exactly like in the scoop photos we revealed earlier this year, with the front being influenced by the Corolla Furia concept car (although not as much as we had hoped).
There are hints of the Auris, especially in the design of the fascia, but the oversized headlights that merge with the grille give the front end a less harmonious look. At the rear, the horizontal taillights are also large but they still can’t hide the fact that the rear end is really high – which is good for boot volume, however.
On the inside, the overall layout of the dashboard is the same as on the US Corolla, with differences including the instrument panel, air conditioning unit and the absence of the watch on the center console on the European version.
So far there is no information on engines or pricing, but don't expect those to be very different from the Auris hatchback and wagon with which the Corolla shares its platform. As a personal conclusion, I think the US Corolla looks sharper than the European version. What do you think?
