Dell launches $179 Chromebox and $999 Chromebox for meetings

Dell’s first Chrome OS desktops are coming this month. The company will offer an entry-level consumer model with a $179 starting price and a premium model aimed at enterprise customers which will sell for $999.
That model is part of Google’s Chromebox for Meetings program.

The Dell Chromebox for Meetings features an Intel Core i7-4600U Haswell processor, 4GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. But it’s the accessories that come in the box which really make it different from a basic Chromebox.
It comes with a Logitech 1080p webcam, a Jabra microphone and speaker, a Philips remote control, and accessories for connecting and mounting the Chromebox to a display. It’s designed for use in video conferencing environments.
In regular Dell fashion, the computer actually has a list price of $1320, but it’s available for $320 off through September 22nd.
The consumer Chromebox will be available with Intel Celeron or Core i3 processors. Both the basic Chromebox and the Dell Chromebox for meetings feature WiFi, Bluetooth, Gigabit Ethernet, 4 USB 3.0 ports, an SD card slot, and HDMI and DisplayPort. The box measures 4.9″ x 4.9″ x 1.7″ and weighs 1.2 pounds.
