McLaren Puts 12C on Hold, Concentrates on 650S Production

McLaren is shining the spotlight away from the established 12C model, as it pauses production of the model in order to concentrate on manufacturing the stepping stone between it and the flagship P1, the new 650S. Apparently, there’s great demand for the 650S and not enough production capacity.Another reason why that’s good for them is that it kicks the number of model naming styles in the range down to two… that’s something they really need to work on: cohesion of model names.
The news comes via PistonHeads, and they say the source comes from close to the top ofMcLaren’s corporate ladder, its chief financial officer, Richard Molyneux. He said:
"There's an element of customers wanting the newest and best. The 650S is partly a reaction to that, and our partly down to our own learning. There's no point learning lessons like the big OEMs and then waiting six years to put them on a new model."
Further reasoning behind the move could also be the eventual abolishment of the 12C, replacing it with the more powerful 650S. There’s no official word on this, but it doesn’t sound like a stretch at all.

McLaren Drops New Photos of P1 Hypercar for Your Desktop

When it comes to exotic supercars like the McLaren P1, there's no such thing as too many photos, especially since very few people will actually get the chance to see one up close…
It is the second time this year that McLaren has shared an admittedly, beautiful gallery of images of the P1 photographed at the Bahrain International Circuit. The British automaker said it did so this time to celebrate the opening of the new McLaren Manama showroom at the Bahrain World Trade Center over the 2013 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix programme.
In regards to the showroom, McLaren added that it will put on display the first McLaren raced by the 2009 FIA Formula 1 World Champion, Jenson Button in his debut season for the team in 2010, the MP4-25.
All in all, the company will build only 375 numbered examples of the $1.15 million P1 that sports a hybrid 3.8-liter turbocharged V8-electric motor powertrain good for  903HP (916PS) offering a top speed of 350 km/h (217.5 mph).
McLaren pointed out that interest in the Middle East alone, far exceeds the production numbers…

2013 McLaren MP4-12C to get More Power and Other Upgrades that will Also be Retrofitted to Current Cars

Even though the McLaren MP4-12C only just went on sale in 2011, Car&Driver magazine is reporting that the British automaker is preparing a raft of improvements for the 2013 model year.
What makes the news more fascinating is that with the exception of a new suspension feature, the rest of the upgrades will be provided to existing owners of the MP4-12C at no charge.
In much the same way we update the software on our various electronic devices, McLaren will be upgrading the MP4-12C's 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8, the transmission electronics and touch-screen–based infotainment system.
A reprogramming of the V8's ECU is said to increase output by 25hp to a total of 618-horses, while other updates include a new transmission programming and the addition of software to allow drivers to choose how much sound they want entering the cabin.
McLaren has also completed the development of a program that will allow the infotainment system to support both navigation and Bluetooth.
The only improvement that will not be available to current owners of the car is a new optional suspension lift mode that can raise both ends of the car at low speeds to help navigate through speed bumps or parking ramps.
