Reborn Datsun Brand Teases First Model, an Affordable Micra-Based Supermini

The first new car to bear the Datsun badge has just been teased by Nissan, and predictably, it won’t get your heart racing, because it has been designed with a low price point in mind first, then the rest…
However, looking at these two teaser shots, one could see a funky supermini, with clearly Micra roots, at least in terms of the overall proportions, and definitely very similar underpinnings. Currently unnamed, the project goes by the internal designation ‘K2’, and should sell well in the “emerging markets” of the world, but it is primarily aimed for the Indian market.
According to the head of Datsun, Vincent Cobee, the brand promises to bring "competitive products and services, modern and aspirational, while at the same time reassuring, providing superior value and specifically developed for the emerging and ambitious new Middle Class in high-growth markets." Cobee adds that, "Datsun cars will be locally developed with the support of Nissan Motor Company engineers and stylists and will be locally produced."
The model will be part of the Datsun lineup, and will launch some time in 2014. Until then, we still need to see what it looks like in the metal, because these stylized renderings tend to make the car look much better than it actually does once it becomes real. In addition, if they do move into Europe, then perhaps Dacia could reconsider making a small city car.
